A Married Couple Becomes Nervous About Their Hazardous And Excessive Drinking And Wonders If They Manifest Any Signs Of Alcohol Addiction

Angie and Lenny have been married for six years. They wanted to have some excitement and fun before they made up their minds to have children and so they consciously established a very vibrant social life.

The key problem, it needs to be highlighted, is that almost everything they do for excitement is related to drinking. For instance, all of the parties with friends, dinner engagements, happy hours, sporting events, and family get-togethers they attend have something to do with drinking.

If they were responsible or moderate drinkers this wouldn't be a major problem. Because they drink quite excessively, nonetheless, they are beginning to notice some obvious alcohol-related problems in their lives.

For example, just a few days ago Lenny received a second DUI and has been ignoring responsibilities at work because of alcohol-related health problems. Furthermore, Lenny's last two or three performance appraisals at the office have been less than adequate and he has started to fail to remember what he does or says the times that he drinks. Lastly, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family is starting to grow concerned about his drinking situation.

Angie, on the other hand, has been feeling depressed with life and to deal with these feelings, she has been drinking more intensely than any time in the past six months. In addition, Angie has been getting a lot of throbbing headaches and suffering from terrible hangovers due to her drinking. Finally, Angie has been feeling appreciably less active in the morning, she has been getting to work late at least once per week, and she has been receiving some negative criticism from her friends, coworkers, relatives, and family members about her careless drinking.

One Thursday evening while watching TV, Angie and Lenny went through the channels and discovered a TV special about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This television special was a real source of revelation to Lenny and Angie because more than a few of the alcohol facts that were listed looked as if they were unshakably associated with quite a few of the alcohol related drinking problems Lenny and Angie had been experiencing.

With thoughts of the TV special still running through her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol dependency signs they have been displaying could mean that they are alcoholic or perhaps becoming alcohol dependent. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he suggested that they schedule an appointment with one of the healthcare professionals at the nearby drug and alcohol treatment facility to find out more about the gravity of their drinking issues.

Ironically, even though their drinking situation hadn't yet changed, it was obvious that Lenny and Angie were at the very least addressing their drinking issues, they were willing to find out more about their drinking situation, and they were concerned about how they could significantly lessen or eliminate the drinking-related issues that had started to worsen.

When Lenny and Angie went to bed that evening, they came to a decision that the next afternoon, Lenny would call and schedule an appointment for both of them at the alcohol abuse rehab facility located in the middle of town. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to deal with the alcohol-related problems that had cropped up in their lives, they in point of fact had the most refreshing night's sleep they could think of in the last five months.
