Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to go over the long term and the short term consequences of alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction, but she also made the effort to back up what she was saying with alcohol abuse and alcoholism statistics and facts that related to everyone, and principally to teenagers. As a matter of fact, it was almost as if a light went on and Stephen without pause grasped why he should not be engaging in hazardous and excessive drinking with or without his friends anymore. Stephen thanked Miss Pender for her concern and for the materials she discussed and then accepted her reinstatement into class.
